Surviving Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

Surviving Valentine’s Day When You’re Single
The word single with the S written in candyIf you’re anything like me, February 14th is a day that you annually spend laying in your bed, watching romcoms, and avoiding social media at all costs. If you’re reading this article, it’s safe to say that the love holiday has no special meaning to you… because you are single. No chocolates or flowers or vomit-worthy paragraphs on Instagram for you, but don’t worry, 50.2% of the US population is in the same boat. As someone who is on the constant search for a boyfriend, spending another Valentine's day alone was heartbreaking but then again, February 14th is just another day. A day of others bragging that they’re in love… I lied, February 14th is not just another day, it’s the worst day of the year! As horrible as I’ve made this day sound, it is manageable to get through. Being single on the day of love isn’t the end of the world, there is a number of ways to keep your mind from wandering back to the bouquets of flowers and heart-shaped chocolates that you won’t be receiving.

Take A Break From Social Media
Do you really need to spend the whole day scrolling through your timeline and seeing endless gushy posts about how perfect people’s significant others are and how in love they are? Save yourself from vomiting in your mouth and just stay off social media for the day. There are so many other things you can be doing other than being envious of the other couples. Their gross kissing selfies don’t need your likes anyway.

Send Love To Family and Friends Instead
You know what’s cute? Getting your grandparents and parents a box of chocolates or balloons or flowers. Why be bitter that someone else isn’t getting you any when you can treat your family and friends to gifts instead? Have a galentines date with your friends! I can confidently tell you that people would much rather see a photoshoot of you and your besties wearing heart glasses and surrounded by heart balloons than a picture of you kissing a gross boy.

Love Yourself
The best relationship you can have is with yourself and if someone else isn’t all about you this Valentine’s day, it means it’s the perfect time to partake in some self-care. Write yourself a love letter or have a spa day. Better yet, sleep the day away. Taking the whole day off doesn’t mean you’re lazy, it just means that you’re going to awaken refreshed and realize that you don’t need somebody to love you when you could just love yourself. Just remember, being single isn’t the worst thing in the world. That special someone will come around at some point and Valentine’s day is just another day to prove that you don’t need someone else to make you happy.
