Honor Roll Cards
This year, we will again be giving honor roll cards to the students who earn them. Maroon cards will be given to students with all As. White cards will be given to students with an A/B average, and gold cards will be given (starting in quarter two) for students who show great improvement and are nominated by a teacher.

Spires Scholarship Opportunity Announced!
The Berne Union Veterans Committee would once again like to announce the “Mike Spires Community Service Scholarship.” Mike Spires was a military veteran who continued his commitment to service after his enlisted time ended. Mike was a great leader of our community and a huge supporter of anything and everything Berne Union. To ensure his legacy we have created this annual scholarship to be awarded to a Berne Union Senior who has exemplified the same qualities of Mike including, experience in community service and/or volunteerism as well as qualities of compassion towards others.

Blood Drive

Raptor System
Raptor Visitor Management System
The Berne Union Local School District is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in our school to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and staff. Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will enable us to do that. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in to our school.

Important State Testing Information
To Students and Parents/Guardians: The week of April 8-12, Berne Union High School will be conducting the State of Ohio AIR testing. We are trying something new this year for testing and would ask for your monitoring and cooperation in this effort. Our hope is that we can create an atmosphere for the students taking the tests that will allow them to focus and do their best on each test.

2nd Quarter Popcorn Party
On Friday, March 22, 2019, the Berne Union Athletic Boosters were kind enough to donate, make, bag, and distribute popcorn to our students who were on the honor roll for the second quarter. This reward was for any student grades 7-12 who were on the all A honor roll, the A/B honor roll, or who were recognized by their teachers for making improvement from the first to the second quarter.

Kindergarten Registration
Children age 5 on or before August 1, 2019 are eligible for Kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year. Registration will be by appointment during the week of March 4-8, 2019. Appointment hours are 10:00 am-2:00 pm in the elementary office.

A number of nominations were submitted from the junior high teachers in an effort to recognize Berne Union students for their outstanding work and effort in the month of January. This month, students were nominated for being helpful, working well with others, putting forth great effort, having amazing work habits, and being positive role models for other kids. The winners this month were Levi Shafer and Ben Jubach.

Even though December was a short month, the junior high teachers found a number of reasons to acknowledge the 7th and 8th grade students as potential students of the month. Teachers nominated students in December for being helpful to classmates, being a leader in and outside of classes, and for being putting forth great effort. The teachers and administration are so pleased with the junior high students for this stellar beginning to our year! There were more nominations for the month of November than any month prior. The teachers nominated students due to their kindness, trustworthiness, standing up for others, hard work, volunteerism during the Veteran's Day assembly, and all around good citizenship! The students' efforts are noticed and appreciated! The students of the month for November were Riley Eden, 7th grade, who was nominated by Mr. Melton, and the 8th grade winner was Morgan Chapman, nominated by Mr. Hurst!

ROX (Ruling Our Experiences) Coming to Berne Union High School
We are excited to announce that the ROX program is coming to Berne Union High School! ROX stands for Ruling Our Experiences and is the nation’s non-profit leader in programming, research, and education focused on girls. ROX is designed to increase girls’ confidence and assertive communication skills. Topics covered in the program will include: showing leadership, conflict and communication, healthy relationships with other girls, healthy dating relationships, verbal self-defense, physical self-defense, coping skills, redefining beauty standards in our culture, and social media.

Spreading the Sparkle’s Christmas
In keeping with tradition White Christmas will continue but under a new name, Spreading the Sparkle. Although Spreading the Sparkle benefits students at Berne Union, we are not affiliated with Berne Union Local Schools. Berne Union Elementary students are being asked to participate by sending in donations of non-perishable food and other items. Please see the list on the article page to see the requested items divided per grade level. There will also be a Coin Harvest throughout the Elementary. Students are asked to donate pennies and other coins. All coins collected will be used to buy perishable food items for the families in need.
