Transportation

Dear BU Families,

The mission of the Berne Union Local School District Transportation and Maintenance Department is to provide safe, efficient and professional transportation service and facilities maintenance for our students while supporting the district’s educational mission.

We employ highly trained and state certified drivers who safely transport our students daily and maintenance and custodial staff who care for the facilities that host our students each day.

Our staff are dedicated to being part of the Berne Union community, as many are alumni of our school and reside in the district. These committed employees take their role in your child’s education very seriously and work alongside the teachers and administration to make Berne Union welcoming, safe and encouraging.

While establishing bus routes, careful consideration is given to the safety of our children as well as the most efficient use of our resources.  To maintain our excellent safety record, we require our students to obey all state and local policies regarding school bus safety.  In addition, our drivers participate in pre-service and in-service training. Berne Union’s preventative maintenance program ensures our buses are inspected and maintained on a regular basis, providing the highest level of mechanical safety.

The decision to delay or close school for inclement weather is typically made by 6:00 am.  The announcement will be broadcast via the school’s social media platforms, as well as over our automated telephone alert system.

Below you will find photos of our staff, as well as important information and forms about our policies and procedures.

If you ever have concerns or questions, please contact Angie Barnes in our office at 740-746-5507 and she will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for allowing us to serve your students,

James Snoke
Transportation and Maintenance Director

 Angie Barnes

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES

We are NOT able to accept transportation requests or changes in the form of a handwritten note or by phone call. In the event of an emergency, please contact the transportation office at  740-746-5507

If we need to bring your child/children back to the transportation office until someone can pick them up, their pick-up time can be no later than 5:00 p.m. Your child/children will need to be signed out and identification shown before they will be released.

Also, please be aware, your child/children’s pick-up location must be the same Monday through Friday and your child/children’s drop off location must be the same Monday through Friday for the school year.

If it is necessary for you to change locations because of a change of address, job change or a new child care provider, please make changes in Final Forms and the transportation office will be notified of the change.

If a Shared Parenting Agreement is in effect because of divorce, etc. and the pick up or drop off location needs to change in order to honor a Shared Parenting Agreement, the transportation department will need a copy of the Shared Parenting Agreement. This is the only exception made to the School Bus Authorization pick up and drop off.
