Dear B.U. Community,
As promised, we wanted to update you about the progress of our construction project for the new school facility.
As you may know, the construction supply market is unpredictable right now. The cost of supplies changes quickly, and forecasters are continuing to have difficulty predicting when prices will increase or decrease. Currently we are experiencing a fairly substantial increase in the estimated cost of supplies to construct our building.
Therefore, in order to be good stewards of your money, we are proceeding with the PreK-12 building that houses our classrooms, offices, cafeteria, auditorium and gymnasiums now. However, we are going to delay construction of the field house. Over the coming months, we will consult our construction experts and monitor supply pricing. We will plan to move forward with that part of the construction when costs are closer to our budget. However, should we need to, we will be able to utilize a portion of our current school building, including the gymnasium, weight room and community room to serve as field house facilities until we are able to construct the field house within our budget.
It is in the spirit of transparency that we are sharing this with you today. We will continue to keep you updated as we progress through this process.
Thank you, as always, for your support and understanding. Please feel free to contact me if you should have any additional questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jon Parker
Superintendent

Dear BU Community,
November 11, 2021, was an exciting day here at Berne Union schools as we broke ground for our new building!
A student from every upcoming graduating class participated in the event, along with our band and cheerleaders. Julia Ribo, a fourth generation Berne Union student and representative of the first class that will graduate from the new facility, spoke to students and other attendees about what our school represents - the heart and spirit of our community.
We know there are lots of questions about what is happening - and we’re going to do our best to keep you as informed as possible as construction moves forward. Specifically, we will be updating this Q&A document as we go - so if you have questions, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to answer them as soon and as completely as possible.
We will be providing updates regularly through our e-newsletter and social media as well. You can subscribe to our e-newsletter by clicking here, follow our Facebook page here and follow our Instagram here. We look forward to sharing our progress with you.
Thank you, as always, for being such a supportive community for our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Jon Parker
Superintendent
