Superintendent's Message

Dear Berne Union Community,

As we shared at the beginning of the school year, our first priority is to keep our students in school, in person, learning five days a week.

While we had hoped to be able to avoid requiring masks, positive cases and quarantine requirements are threatening our ability to achieve this goal. The very last thing we want to do is go to remote/virtual learning. The best way that we can achieve this now, while adhering to the exposure and quarantine guidelines we must follow, is to require that all students, staff, volunteers and visitors wear a mask while inside our school building, regardless of vaccination status.

This will be effective Monday, September 13 and will apply to the school building at all hours - including extracurricular activities, such as volleyball and booster meetings.

We are doing this for one reason: to keep our students safely in the classroom and able to participate in extracurricular activities. We are doing everything we can to avoid having to implement wide spread remote learning. We want our students in school. Due to the current circumstances, the best way to do this is to wear masks in our building. As always, we will continue to monitor and evaluate the evolving information and communicate changes to you via our website, social media, email and One Call Now system.

We know this is not easy, but it is necessary at this point in time. I am so proud to be a Rocket - and I know so many of you are too. Our staff, students, families and community are so supportive of our school - and we need that show of support now more than ever to keep our kids learning in person, in school.
