Welcome to Berne Union High School—a place where opportunity, tradition, and community come together. For nearly 100 years, our school has stood at the heart of this rural district, not only as a center for learning, but as a gathering place for the life of our community. Generations of families have walked these halls, and we take great pride in honoring that legacy while preparing today’s students for a rapidly changing world.
At Berne Union, we are deeply committed to helping students see clear pathways from school to life beyond graduation. Our robust work-based learning opportunities allow students to gain real-world experience, build professional skills, and explore careers while still in high school. Academically, we are proud to offer more than 55 hours of College Credit Plus coursework, along with multiple Advanced Placement options, giving students the chance to challenge themselves and earn college credit in a supportive, local environment.
Our arts department is second to none with award-winning bands and choral groups as well as a rapidly rising theater department. An ever-expanding athletic department provides many opportunities for our students to shine.
Just as important as academics and athletics is our belief that Berne Union High School exists for our community. We strive to be a school that listens, partners, and responds to the needs of our families, local businesses, and organizations. Whether through career partnerships, community events, or daily relationships, we see education as a shared endeavor—one rooted in trust, mutual respect, and a genuine investment in our students’ futures.
On a personal note, I am honored to serve the families of this district. With deep Appalachian roots and a lifelong commitment to this region, I understand the values of hard work, resilience, and community that define us. I am personally committed to working alongside our families to support their children and help them achieve their highest aspirations. Thank you for entrusting us with your students—we look forward to continuing this journey together.
Sincerely,
Craig S. Heath, Ed.D.
Principal, Berne Union High School
