Community Message LogoDear Berne Union Community,

I’m sure, like me, many of you have been following the ever-changing information being shared by public health experts in our local community, at the state level, nationally and across the globe.

While we are still facing many uncertainties, we have made the decision to delay the start of school for students until August 31st. Our staff will start on the regularly scheduled date in order to plan for restart. There are many changes that will be necessary, regardless of HOW we resume school this fall – from extra safety precautions to planning for virtual instruction if and when needed. Given the rapid pace of changing information about COVID-19, we want to ensure our team is ready and prepared for changing from one form of instruction to another, and this time for staff training will help us to work together on these plans.

Additionally, we wanted to share with you our district plan for reopening and operating as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that you will take time to read it and save it as a reference as we move into the school year. At this time, we are still uncertain which level we will be able to open with, but we will be communicating that information ON OR BEFORE August 21st.

While we understand the unknown is frustrating, we are trying to use as much relevant and timely information as possible to make our final determination. Additionally, it’s important to keep in mind that things are changing daily, if not hourly, with the pandemic. We are hopeful to have some continuity with our opening plan once we start, but we ask for your patience and flexibility as things change throughout the school year.

This is a difficult time for our students, staff, families and the community. However, one thing I know for certain – the Berne Union community is amazing – and I have no doubt we will rise to this challenge like we do every challenge – by working together.
