This year, because of the new regulations of COVID-19, our basketball cheerleading squad will only be at the home games. The 4 girls on the team have had to make some adjustments to the usual rules of cheerleading because of the virus, but they are still excited to be able to have a squad during this time. The team consists of two juniors and two seniors, so next year there will need to be more interest by other students so next year’s seniors are able to have their final year.
Hannah Queen
Hannah is a junior this year. She has cheered for threeyears and plans on cheering next year as well. As well as cheering she also participates in the color guard at BU. Her favorite part of cheerleading is just being able to be part of the team, and her favorite cheer is L-E-T-S G-O. She was first interested in cheer because a few of her friends were on the squad. When asked what she wants to do after high school, she said that she is not completely sure, but the goal is to either become a physical therapist or an occupational therapist.
Bailee Garner
Bailee is a junior this year. This is her first time cheering since she was little. She also plays softball. She stated that having her best friend (Chloe) on the team was her favorite part of cheerleading. This was also the reason why she was interested in cheer in the first place. At the moment, she’s not sure what her favorite cheer is. After high school, Bailee plans on studying to become a veterinarian.
Lydia Nauman
Lydia is a senior this year. This is her first time ever cheering, but she is involved in band and choir at BU. She said that she has always wanted to cheer but never knew if she had the time, but she figured out a way to make it work this year! Her favorite thing about cheering so far is spending time with her friends, and her favorite cheer is A-T-T-A-C-K. After high school, Lydia plans to go to college and become a science teacher.
Chloe Kness
Chloe is a senior this year. As well as for football season, she is the captain of the squad this basketball season. She has cheered for 4 years now and is very sad that this is her last year being able to be a part of the squad. She is also a member of the choir. Her favorite thing about cheering is being able to be herself and also being able to tumble. When asked what her favorite cheer was, she said that she didn’t really have one. She also said that what made her want to do cheer freshman year was that it seemed like a good way to break out of her shell. After high school, Chloe has a couple of options but her main goal is to become a midwife.
