Letter to parents RE: Threat 11/9/2017

Important

Dear Parent(s) and Berne Union Community;

We are writing to keep you informed of a serious issue that occurred at Berne Union High School.

On Thursday, November 9, after school hours, Berne Union High School was made aware of a threat against the school. Upon learning of the threat, Berne Union administrators immediately reported this to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department. Based on our communication with local law enforcement, the situation was handled and is being further investigated by the deputies. Since individuals were taken into custody and due to the action taken by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department, we believe that school did not need to be cancelled on Friday, November 10.

We understand situations such as this are concerning to parents, students, and the community. We want you to be aware that the administration of Berne Union High School has exercised extreme diligence and taken all proper actions required by law and in the best interests of our students and our faculty. We will continue to work in partnership with law enforcement to maintain a safe learning atmosphere at Berne Union.

Due to the fact that this is now in the hands of law enforcement, we cannot comment on the matter. We ask for your patience as we strive to respect the confidentiality of those involved as well as the integrity of the investigation.

Sincerely,

Richard Spindler

Superintendent

B.U.nited Project

This year, two students (Abby Hintz and Gabby Sheets) have started a community service project they have called The B.U.nited Project.
The goal of their project was to give high school students an opportunity for community service hours, to bring the community together, and begin a new tradition at Berne Union while simultaneously helping the homeless that occupy Foundation Shelters in Lancaster. They are going to have two drives per year: one for the colder seasons and another for the warmer seasons. They recently held their first drive called the T&T drive (Tampons and T-Shirts Drive) and it was a huge success.
This is a brand new idea for the high school, which is part of reason why they loved the idea of starting it in the first place. However, we really need your help to bring more peoples’ attention to it.
Please take the time to check out the linked video below and make sure to stop by and check out their website. They have been working really hard.

Rockin Sock Drive

The Rockin Sock drive was a huge success. The back of our truck is full of socks, feminine products and shirts.

The kids collected the socks this morning. They apologized if they missed your room, if they did you can send them down to my room with one of your students OR let me know I will get them.
Thanks to everyone!  They were really excited. They don’t have the total number of socks that was collected yet, but will let us all know soon.
